Team operations within a truck, are where the operators are both drivers and operate more on the 24 hour schedule.  One typically sleeps, while the other drives.  These operations tend to move 1000 plus miles over night, they are considered an expedited service, and turn above average rate returns if properly utilized.

Doubling the crew within a cab can be tricky, due to the lack of storage.  Typically, teams are a lead and B seat style operation where one driver is the Lead, or primary, and the secondary is the backup.  More miles do tend to higher maintenance costs, driver costs, with higher gross income amounts double of the typical single driver operation.

Teams typically can operate 5-7000 miles weekly, and usually can perform 20,000-28,000 miles monthly which grosses the carrier operation around $45,000 gross.  These fuel bills can be up to $6-800 per day or $4000 every 5 days.

Minimum mileage for team movements are 1000 per day, just due to the double driving time for the truck.  Anything less and the drivers will not be making the money they desire.  These guys can make more and can earn less, depending on the team environment of the truck.  Premium rates are common with these operations, due to the service it does provide shippers needing it moved and delivered now.

Common amongst the team operations are coast to coast freight coverage in 3-4 days from California to Northeast destinations like Hunts Point, Boston Produce Market, amongst others.

These teams must mesh well with one another being stuck in the confined space called home, on extended periods.

Teams run Trucks that have standard double bunk space, to the apartment style stretched Semi trucks that they never have to leave.  Speed is the fundamental service provided by the operation.  These trucks can run upwards of 250,000 miles per year and truck over solo truck operation, maintenance, and the sheer volume of billable mileage will actually help equipment cost to be lower, and spreading the increase maintenance cost over the mileage which will usually decrease costs by a few percentage points up to savings of 10-15% with the same mileage comparison of the solo operators.
